Josh Ring
PhD Student
I am interested in applying contemporary machine learning approaches to data collected in learning environments, with the goal of improving educational outcomes.
In my PhD project, titled “Personalized vocabulary education based on a deep learning model of the multilingual mental lexicon”, I am working with the educational publishing house Malmberg to train a deep learning model informed by years of psycholinguistic research on usage data collected from classrooms across the Netherlands. By matching a particular student to patterns detected across the population, we aim to provide personalized learning recommendations to students.
As DCC PhD representative, my goal is to help establish systematic tracking and
support of PhD mental health at the Donders Institute in general, and the DCC
specifically.
